Joining forces! Brazilian-Japanese collaboration for reforestation activities

This project is founded on ensuring the transparency and reliability of reforestation activities through the registration of each individual tree, the visualization of associated data, and continuous growth monitoring combined with post-planting management.
Through these measures, the project seeks to promote the phased and sustainable implementation of reforestation activities in areas of the Amazon affected by deforestation and land degradation, while fostering environmental awareness and the adoption of sustainable practices among local communities.
In addition, the project engages with dispersed populations in remote areas of the Amazon, promoting not only the dissemination of planting techniques — including agroforestry systems integrated with agricultural crops — but also the establishment of continuous relationships after planting, in order to support long-term ecological restoration and improved economic outcomes in each locality.
This initiative represents a realistic and feasible plan for large-scale vegetation restoration across the Amazon and is expected to contribute significantly to slowing the expansion of deforestation frontiers.
By 2030, the project aims to establish tree planting as a widely adopted and normalized practice within local communities, while developing mechanisms that generate both environmental and economic value, enabling all participants to benefit from the initiative.
To this end, strategic operational hubs will be established across key regions of the Amazon, enabling broad and sustained expansion of activities.
Furthermore, the project takes into consideration the strengthening of cooperation between Japan and Brazil, with a view toward future application in carbon offset mechanisms, while advancing the development of a high-quality, transparent reforestation model aligned with institutional frameworks.
At the local level, partnerships with organizations involved in carbon credit certification will enable the implementation of practical initiatives tailored to the diverse needs of individuals and institutions.
In advancing the project, specific reforestation plans will be flexibly designed and adjusted in accordance with stakeholder needs, promoting effective outcomes through cross-border collaboration.
